Reduce HVAC Strain in the Winter

Texas Ace Heating and Air is on a mission to keep you comfortable all year round! We’ve talked before about how you can Minimize HVAC Strain in the Summer. Today, we’re covering the colder months! Lowering HVAC strain means that your system can run more effectively and efficiently. Better efficiency keeps your utility bills low, and better effectiveness keeps you and your family comfortable! Here are a few simple steps you can take to help your heating run better this winter.

Schedule Professional HVAC Maintenance

It should come as no surprise that the best way to keep your heat running at peak efficiency is to have it professionally maintained! If your system is under warranty, this is a step you should already be taking. However, even if your system is no longer under warranty, it’s still important to have routine HVAC maintenance done twice a year. An HVAC technician will perform standard maintenance tasks such as changing air filters, cleaning the coils, and cleaning dirty components. In addition, they will inspect your ductwork for leaks, look for wear and tear, and overall ensure things are working as they should.

When your furnace and HVAC system are already in great working condition, they won’t be straining to keep your home comfortable. The lower strain on the unit will in turn lead to a longer system lifespan!

Replace Your HVAC Filters Regularly

Even if you’re having regular inspections done twice a year, you should still change your HVAC filters according to schedule. Curious about why clean filters matter? We’ve got a whole post explaining Why It’s So Important to Change Your Air Filters! To summarize some of the key points, a dirty air filter causes HVAC system strain, lowers efficiency, and can even be detrimental to your health.

How often should you change your home’s air filters?

We recommend that you replace air filters based on the following schedule and your manufacturer’s guidelines:

1” filters – every month

2” filters – every 2 months

4” filters – every 4-6 months

Media filters – every 6-8 months

Upgrade Your HVAC System

Do you know how old your HVAC system is? If your system is more than 10 years old, it may be time to consider a replacement. Check out our post How to Tell When Your HVAC Needs Replaced to learn more about the signs that you might need a replacement. WHY is a full system replacement something that we recommend for old systems? There are a few different reasons. For starters, older HVAC units are generally less efficient than their newer counterparts. Additionally, major components in your furnace or air conditioner deteriorate over time. Broken or worn-down parts contribute to inefficient operation. This in turn leads to system strain, which leads to a lower HVAC lifespan overall.

Still on the fence? Upgrading your 10 to 15-year-old HVAC system can save you up to 25% on your home heating and cooling costs! An upgraded HVAC system pays for itself over time.
